Frygani is a conglomerate limestone rock, at the eastern foothills of Zireia, near Lake Stymfalia.
The first routes were established in the spring of 1984 by A. Theodoropoulos - S. Apostolopoulos, were equipped with several pitons and require traditional climbing gear (double ropes, pitons, nuts, friends, slings and helmet). The length of the routes ranges from 60m to 150m, offering many possibilities for traditional and sports routes, while the rock is generally of good quality but in many places is loose. On 4-5/10/1986, with the support of the EOOA, a climbing meeting was organized in the field by the Xylokastro Climbing Club, in which 40 climbers participated.
To access the area from the Athens - Patras national road, we take the exit for Kiato and from there we follow the road to Lake Stymfalia. After about 20km and just 1km before the junction for the village of Kefalari, we come across the red-black rock of Frygani on the right, next to the road, where there is a place to stop. From the road to the nearby routes, walk for about 5min.
The return from the top of the routes is via goat tracks that lead to the base of the rock.
The orientation of the crag is east and climbing is possible all year round, even in summer after 16:00 when the rocks are in the shade. Of course, the best seasons for climbing in the crag are spring and autumn.
