Dirfi - Xerovouni - NW. Face

Adriana

Rock, Sport

The route “Adriana” (VII+ A0, 150m) was completed and climbed on 14/6/2023 by L. Karachalios - S. Kraniotis - G. Smarianakis.

The line starts 400m to the right of “Eternity and a day”, behind the large menhirs, and is in the shade until 3pm.

The first repeat of the route was made on 14/7/2024 by D. Smyrnaios - M. Kafaraki.

On the 1st pitch, the pitons are well suited for aid climbing, but not for falling on them. In the middle of the 2nd pitch, attention is required for loose block on the left. On the 4th pitch, attention is also required for loose rocks. After the traverse of the 4th pitch, retreating to R3 is not easy. Two 60m ropes are required for rappelling.

For repeating the route, two 60m half ropes, 12 quickdraws, slings and carabiners are required. The development was made ground-up, with stainless steel double-expansion plugs.

In the tree after the end of the route, there is a book to leave comments and remarks.

Approach is from the Dirfi - Xerovouni col, initially following the dirt road, and then entering the signposted path to Xerovouni (total 1hr walk).

The route owes its name to the fact that on the day it was climbed, the tragic shipwreck of the vessel “Adriana” occurred, 50nm off Pylos, resulting in at least 600 deaths.

Information about the route can also be found here.
