Batman

Rock, Traditional

The route “Batman” (VII, 60m) has been established on 13/3/1978 by N. Mailander - E. Schillinger.

The line is located in the “Herod” section and starts between the “Butterfly” and “Dreams for sale” routes.

This is a historic route, since it was the first in Greece to exceed VI+.

The first repetition of the route was done by P. Livesey - J. Laurence. The first free repeat by Greeks realized on 11/11/1984 by D. Titopoulos - Chr. Agnoglou - D. Korres and was a very important event for Greek climbing.

The line is one of the most popular in Varasova, due to the zero access and the beautiful technical movements on the 1st pitch that are reminiscent of an artificial climbing wall.

Initially, the exit from the cavity, which is also the most difficult passage (VII), was done with a nut in the exit crack. Later, however, it was equipped with a bolt.

For repeating the route, a full set of nuts, some cams and slings is required for the 2nd pitch. The 1st pitch is equipped with bolds and can be done with just quickdraws.

A variant entrance to the route (IX, 8m) was made by G. Torelli in 1992. This variant starts on the slab to the right of the normal start and goes straight up towards the cavity.

The return after its completion is done by rappelling from the “Tower” route or from the “Kalidonische pfeiler”.
