Geraneia - Paliovouna - Pyrgos Paliovounas

Synchronicity

Rock, Traditional

The route “Synchronicity” (VIII, 60 m) was first climbed on 8/1/2026 by N. Floros - A. Grapsas.

The line, which named after the homonymous book by C. G. Jung, although of high difficulty, was first climbed ground-up, on lead. The name reflects a series of coincidences that led to the creation of the route and captures the first ascentionists’ impression that this line was “waiting” to be climbed, offering natural features, solid movement, and numerous places for natural protection, such as threads. The route promises a distinctive aesthetic experience, narrating the collective story of a close climbing group, to whom it is dedicated.

For the 1st pitch (VIII, 40m), we start from a corner-crack to the right of the “Idosidis - Bakopoulos” route. A small cordelette was placed in a thread near the start to prevent zippering of the subsequent natural placements. The corner provides good protection with nuts, gradually fading and leading to the first crux, which is well protected on a small edge and some additional gear (nuts and friends). A piton was placed at this section to enhance confidence. Then we follow a sequence of threads leading to the second and decisive crux (VIII). The move is long and may prove demanding for shorter climbers. A piton was also placed at this crux. Then we continue straight up and slightly right, encounter an inverted flake that allows protection from there we proceed to another thread. The belay, equipped with rings, is located to the left, and we must leave the corner via a final move on slightly overhanging terrain with good holds and footholds. Rappelling from this belay is possible with a rope at least 80m long.

The 2nd pitch has not yet been completed, as it requires cleaning from vegetation. It ends at a large thread below the summit tree, which can be used as an anchor point for abseiling.

A rack of nuts and friends (up to Camalot #2) is required for repeats, along with 2-3 slings for the threads. Several threads are equipped with cordelettes to facilitate route finding.
